I don't want to go through the expense of buying a air compressor and
tools for rotating tires on my vehicles..

Would the DW293 work for removing/tightening lugnuts on car wheels?

The DeWalt easily removes crank bolts. Wheel nuts are pure trivia
for it. I use mine all the time for removing wheel nuts. Makes tire
rotation a snap.

However... do NOT use the DeWalt for /final tightening/ of wheel nuts! You
can't control the tightening torque the way you can with a low-powered air
wrench. I sometimes use mine (after learning how it does what it does) to
take the nuts up to roughly 25-50 ft/lbs, then I do the final tightening
with a torque wrench.

I must say the DeWalt is one of the very best tool purchases I've ever
made.
